Tasman Bay

Tasman Bay was commissioned to commemorate the 160th anniversary of the Nelson City Brass Band in New Zealand.

Cast in the form of a brisk concert opener, the work takes its name from the bay in New Zealand’s South Island that the city of Nelson sits on.  Originally named Blind Bay by British explorer Captain James Cook in 1770, the name of the bay was officially changed to Tasman Bay (or Te Tai-o-Aorere in Māori) in 2014.
