Richard Haydn Taylor was born in Southampton where he grew up in a musical family.  He started learning to play the Flugel Horn at five years old.  He has mastered all the instruments in the brass family and is a fine trombonist and tuba player.  Over the years he has had the pleasure of performing with brass bands and ensembles in the south of England.

Richard is a self-taught composer, juggling his love of music with a career as an engineer within the construction industry.  His compositions have achieved high praise, and are performed around the world.  So far, in 2016 his composition Weird Sisters won Category 1 (grade 1 to 3 intermediate) at the Salford International Composers Competition, with the world premier given by the Central band of the Royal Air Force.  Also in 2016, Tanguero! won the RWCMD Cory Composition Competition, with the world premier being given by the Cory Band.
